Tuscany is Italy's gentlest countryside. Six days and five nights, from Florentine art to the aroma of Chianti wine, spend your days between vineyards and medieval towns as a pastoral poem.
Starting from Florence, this cradle of the Renaissance. The Uffizi Gallery smiles at Botticelli's Venus de Botticelli, and the dome of the Santa Maria del Fiore is Brunelleschi's miracle. Climb up to Piazzale Michelangelo for a panoramic view of the city's red roofs.
Head to Siena, where the shell-shaped Field Square of the medieval city is the stage for the horse racing festival. The Gothic architecture around the Pastoral Square is well preserved; climb the Mangia Tower and see the Tuscan hills stretch out in endless greenery beneath your feet.
Rent a car and drive into the Chianti wine region. The winding road is lined with neatly trimmed vineyards and cypress avenues, with sunlight painting the hills golden. Tasting Chianti red wine at a family winery, paired with ham and olive oil, was the most Italian moment of the trip.
Don't miss San Gimignano, the "City of a Hundred Towers," which preserves 14 medieval towers. Climb to the top of the tower and you'll be surrounded by endless vineyards and wheat fields. Have a serving of local saffron ice cream—just the right sweetness.
The essence of Tuscany is allowing yourself to waste time. When you sit on the farm terrace, watching the sunset dye the hills like honey, and before finishing a glass of red wine, you'll understand why this place is called the "home of slow living."
