Tulou: A circular fortress nestled in the mountains of western Fujian

Fujian Tulou are circular fortresses where Hakka clans live together. For two days and one night, between rammed earth round buildings and streams, you encounter a unique family universe.

Chengqi Building's "circle within circle, circle within circle" — four rings enclosing hundreds of family members. Looking up from the courtyard, a sky is framed by walls forming a circle, representing Chinese-style collectivist architecture.

Tianluokeng's "Four Dishes and One Soup" — four round buildings enclosing a square building, viewed from the mountain like a dining table and plates, is the most photogenic composition among the Tulou.

The ancient Yunshuiyao Trail stretches along the stream, century-old banyan trees hang like curtains, and tulou are scattered across the fields. Walking through the same scene as in the movie, it's just rightly slow.

Living in a tulou household, having a Hakka meal, and listening to elders tell stories of migration and anti-theft. Once the gate is closed, it becomes a self-sufficient little world.

The wonder of the tulou is that it has turned the family into a fortress. When you stand in the center of the courtyard, surrounded by eaves around the eaves, you will understand: security can be so concrete.
