West Lake is a poem read for a thousand years. Three days and two nights, from the broken bridge and lingering snow to the spring dawn on Su Causeway, amidst misty willows, painted bridges, and the fragrance of Longjing tea, steep the warmth of Jiangnan into a cup of tea.
West Lake is most enchanting in the early morning. Jogging along Su Causeway, with willows brushing the water, morning mist still lingering, and the distant Leifeng Pagoda faintly visible in the mist. West Lake without tourists is the "shimmering water is best on a sunny day" described by Su Shi.
Rent a hand-rowed boat to tour the Three Pools Mirroring the Moon. Passing the lake, you can see three stone pagodas lined up in the water. On Mid-Autumn night, candles are lit at the pagoda's opening, reflecting like the moon—one of the most romantic scenes of West Lake. Most boatmen can tell a legend about Lady White Snake.
Climb Baoshi Mountain to overlook the entire lake, or visit Lingyin Temple to listen to a stick of incense. This thousand-year-old temple is hidden beneath Feilai Peak, where the story of Ji Gong originates. By the cold spring pavilion at the mountain gate, watching the stream glide over the rocks instantly dispels the summer heat.
Don't miss Longjing Village and Jiuxi Smoke Tree. Before Qingming, Longjing new tea is the most precious; find a tea farmer to stir-fry a pot yourself, paired with a few pieces of osmanthus cake. Jiuxi streams flow through the forest, making it a secret spot for hiking and stream-tracing.
The wonder of West Lake is that everyone can find their own version. Sunshine has its beauty, rain has its charm; Whether you come in a hurry or at leisure, it treats you gently. When leaving, a trace of Longjing fragrance should linger on your collar.
