Hallstatt is known as "the most beautiful town in the world." For three days and two nights, between lakeside cabins and snow-capped mountain reflections, I came across a living postcard.
By Lake Hallstatt, rows of wooden houses are built along the mountain, reflected in the mirror-like lake. Before the morning mist lifts, the entire town seems to float above the clouds, making it the most classic postcard camera spot.
The Mingxin camera platform is on the opposite bank; in the backlight, you can see the church's spire, wooden cabins, and snow-capped mountains all in one frame. It's best to arrive early, as you can enjoy this quiet moment before the tour group arrives.
Salt mining is the town's millennia-old industry and one of the oldest salt mines in the world. Take the small train deep underground, slide down the mountain, and enjoy both fun and history.
Take a boat across the lake to the opposite shore at the Wuzhi Viewing Platform, where the wooden platform stretches into the center of the lake and is surrounded by the Alps in all directions. When the wind is calm, the mountain shadows are as vivid as a painting.
Hallstatt's tranquility is the concentration of beauty into a small village. When you sit by the lake until the sun sets, you'll understand why the whole world is copying it—because it is truly unique.
