Qingyuan
#玩水避暑好去处 I just got back 🏞️ from Qingyuan, and many friends around me are planning to go play in the water in August. I have to come and share my thoughts with you. The mountains and forests there are lush and dense, and the summer water experience is truly exceptional 🌊. But August is the peak summer season. If you want to relax and enjoy your vacation, this ready-to-use guide is a quick and practical guide ✨.
🚗 Travel tips: If you're in nearby cities, drive if 🚙 you can. The scenic spots are far apart, and taking public transport to keep going is a waste of time. After taking the high-speed train to Qingyuan Station, booking a pick-up and drop-off in advance will be more convenient. Never believe the people soliciting passengers at the entrance of the high-speed rail station who claim there are low-priced tours 🚫—most of them come with extra expenses. Mountain roads have many curves and slippery roads in rainy weather. Drive slowly and watch out for pedestrians 🌿 along the roadside.
🏡 How to choose accommodation without pitfalls: Convenient for eating, drinking, and shopping, stay in Qingyuan city 🛏️ center, offering plenty of options for breakfast and evening meals, and stable prices. If you plan to raft all day, you can book a guesthouse next to the scenic area, but since availability is tight in August, it's best to book three days 📅 in advance. Don't choose those trendy guesthouses deep in the mountains with no supporting facilities; it's inconvenient to buy things. If you're bringing elders, the first choice is accommodation with an elevator, so it's easier to climb fewer stairs 🪜.
💦 Core summer activities: The midday sun is scorching 🔥, not suitable for long outdoor periods. It's recommended to go rafting between 8 and 10 a.m., as it's less crowded and cooler. Gulong Gorge and Huangteng Gorge can be chosen according to your preference: if you want ease, choose gentle river sections; if you love excitement, pick the river with a larger 🌊 drop difference. Never wear regular slippers when rafting, as they can easily be swept away by the water. Bring a pair of closed-heeled river trekking shoes. During the afternoon scorching hours, we arranged for cave sightseeing 🕳️, which maintained a constant temperature year-round, perfect for sheltering from the sun. After 4 p.m., we went for a walk and cycling in Yingxi Peak Forest. The soft lighting made the photos especially beautiful 📸. In the evening, I walk to Baimiao Fishing Village, stroll along the North River, watch the sunset on the river, and the evening breeze feels very 🌅 healing.
🍲 Local Food Practical Guide: When visiting Qingyuan, you must try authentic Qingyuan chicken 🍗. Both the white-cut and sauna chicken methods are excellent. The roadside shops at Zhouxin Grilled Pork and Tofu Pudding are cheap and authentic. Try to avoid restaurants crowded at the entrance of scenic areas, as prices are generally inflated 🥢. If you want to eat river fresh, remember to ask the price first. Two people can eat more leisurely, no need to order a big table, and the portions are generous to avoid waste. After playing in the water, don't immediately gulp down cold drinks; be careful not to cause bad 🥤 stomach tempers.
🎒 Travel essentials: The mountainous area has intense UV rays 🧴, so bring high-magnification sun protection, sun hats, and ice sleeves. The mountains are full of vegetation, so mosquito repellent spray is indispensable. In August, sudden showers often come on afternoons, so carry a dual-purpose umbrella ☂️ for sun and rain. If you're going rafting, you need to prepare a full set of clothes to change in, and a waterproof phone bag. Common medicines are also packed into the bag, and stomach medicine and band-aids can be 💊 useful.
⚠️ Honest Reminder for August Travel: The number of tourists surges in August, popular attractions have long queues ⏳, and accommodation prices are higher than usual. If you can skip the weekend and choose a weekday, the experience will be much better. Don't schedule too much; allow for a lunch break to avoid heatstroke. Traveling, you don't have to rush to check in at every sight. Just find a creek to daydream and feel the mountain breeze—that's a rare kind of comfort 🍃.

I've returned to Qingyuan, but honestly, I don't recommend going in August! So much fun I don't want to go home. Image 2
