In depth

The most classic is hiking up the mountain from Hongmen, passing the steep stone steps of Zhongtianmen and Shibaben to reach Nantianmen, with every step inscribed with a stele. Those with limited stamina can take the cable car directly to reach it.

Overnight at the mountain summit is just for the sunrise at Sun Viewing Peak: when the first ray of golden light pierces the sea of clouds and the peaks form silhouettes underfoot, one understands why the ancients equated "Mount Tai" with weight. The Han cypress and stele forest in Dai Temple serve as the prelude to the climb
